Can You Get Ozempic in Bali? A Prescription Guide

Yes, you can get Ozempic in Bali with a doctor's prescription. Here is how to get genuine pens, avoid fakes and travel with your own supply.

Yes, you can get Ozempic in Bali, but only with a prescription from a doctor. Ozempic is a prescription medicine, so the safe route is a consultation, a check of your health history and blood work, and then genuine pens from a licensed clinic or pharmacy.

This guide is for travellers, expats and anyone living in Bali who wants to start Ozempic, keep taking it while on the island, or understand how it compares with Wegovy and Mounjaro. It explains what Ozempic is, how to get it properly, how to avoid fake pens and what to do if you are bringing your own.

What Ozempic is

Ozempic is a once-weekly injection containing semaglutide, a GLP-1 medicine. GLP-1 medicines reduce appetite, help the body manage blood sugar and slow down how quickly the stomach empties. Ozempic was developed for people with type 2 diabetes, and many people also lose weight while taking it.

Wegovy contains the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but is made and licensed specifically for weight management. Mounjaro is a different medicine, tirzepatide, which acts on two hormone pathways rather than one. Which one suits you depends on your health, your goals and what your doctor recommends. Our comparison of Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy goes through the differences in more detail.

Is Ozempic available in Bali?

Ozempic is available in Indonesia through doctors and licensed pharmacies. Boost Health Clinic prescribes Ozempic and Wegovy, both registered with BPOM, Indonesia’s food and drug authority, as well as Mounjaro. You can check whether any medicine is registered in Indonesia using BPOM’s official product database.

Availability at individual pharmacies can vary, and some will not supply it without a prescription from a local doctor. Going through a clinic means the prescription, the medicine and the follow-up all come from the same place.

How to get Ozempic in Bali

The process is the same whether you are on holiday, working remotely or living here:

  1. Consultation. A doctor asks about your weight history, current medicines, past illnesses and family history, especially of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis and gall bladder problems.
  2. Blood tests. Usually blood sugar and HbA1c, cholesterol, liver and kidney function and thyroid function. Recent results from home can sometimes be used instead.
  3. Prescription and pen training. If Ozempic or another GLP-1 medicine suits you, the doctor explains the plan and shows you how to use the pen.
  4. Follow-up. Regular check-ins to review side effects and progress, in person or by WhatsApp when you are travelling.

Our GLP-1 medications in Bali page explains how this works at the clinic, and the medical weight loss page covers the programme as a whole.

Who should not start Ozempic

GLP-1 medicines are not right for everyone. A doctor will usually not start Ozempic if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or a condition called MEN2, have had pancreatitis, or have certain gall bladder or stomach problems. Tell the doctor about every medicine you take, including insulin or other diabetes tablets, because combining them can cause low blood sugar.

How to avoid fake Ozempic pens

Demand for semaglutide has led to counterfeit pens being sold worldwide, often through social media, online marketplaces or sellers who do not ask for a prescription. Fake pens may contain the wrong substance, the wrong amount or nothing at all, and they can be dangerous.

  • Only use pens prescribed by a doctor and supplied by a licensed clinic or pharmacy.
  • Check that the packaging is sealed, labelled and within its expiry date.
  • Be wary of unusually cheap offers, delivery with no prescription, or pens sold loose without a box.
  • Unused pens need to be kept in the fridge, so ask how they have been stored.

The same rule applies to other prescription medicines. Our guide to buying Viagra or Cialis at a pharmacy in Bali explains why tablets sold with no questions asked are a risk.

Bringing your own Ozempic to Bali

If you already take Ozempic at home, you may prefer to bring your supply with you. Australia’s Smartraveller advises travellers to carry a letter from their doctor naming the medicine and confirming it is for their own use, keep medicines in their original packaging, check the rules of the country they are visiting, and pack enough for the whole trip.

Pens should travel in your hand luggage, kept cool, and go back into a fridge as soon as you arrive. Our article on bringing prescription medication into Bali covers the paperwork in more depth. If your supply runs out or is damaged, a doctor in Bali can review your prescription and help you continue.

Switching or continuing treatment

Some people arrive in Bali on Ozempic and decide, with their doctor, to move to Wegovy or Mounjaro, often because of what is available or how they have responded so far. Any switch should be planned by a doctor rather than done by yourself. Our guide to switching from Ozempic to Mounjaro in Bali explains what to expect.

If you will spend time in Jakarta as well, treatment can continue there too. See GLP-1 treatment in Jakarta for how the clinic works there.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Ozempic in Bali without a prescription?

Ozempic is a prescription medicine. Buying it without one usually means it has not come through a licensed supplier, and it skips the medical checks that make treatment safe.

Is Ozempic the same as Wegovy?

They contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but are separate products licensed for different purposes. Your doctor will explain which one fits your situation.

Can tourists get Ozempic in Bali?

Yes, after a consultation with a doctor. Tell the doctor how long you are staying and whether you can continue treatment at home, because that affects whether starting now makes sense.

How should I store Ozempic in Bali’s heat?

Keep unused pens in the fridge and never let them freeze. Follow the storage instructions in the leaflet for a pen that is in use, and keep it out of direct sun.
