Short answer: yes, you can usually bring your own prescribed medication, including testosterone, into Bali, provided it is for personal use, documented, and limited to what you need for your stay. The details matter, because Indonesia applies its drug laws strictly and some medicines that are routine in Australia or Europe are illegal here.

What Indonesian rules expect from travellers
The Australian Government’s Smartraveller advice for Indonesia summarises what travellers should do when carrying prescription medicine:
- Carry a copy of your prescription and a letter from your doctor stating the medication names, your dosage and that the medicine is for your personal use.
- Bring only enough for the length of your stay.
- Keep everything in its original packaging, ideally with the pharmacy receipt.
- Be prepared to complete an Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) form about your medication on arrival.
- Check in advance with the Indonesian embassy whether your specific medicine is legal in Indonesia.
Some medicines are illegal in Indonesia even with a foreign prescription. Smartraveller specifically warns about certain ADHD medications and all cannabis-based products, including CBD. Penalties can include detention and fines, so never assume a prescription from home protects you.
Travelling to Bali with testosterone
Testosterone is a prescription-only medicine in Indonesia, as we explain in Is testosterone legal in Indonesia? If you are on TRT at home and travelling with your own supply:
- Carry vials, ampoules or gel in the original labelled packaging, with your name on the pharmacy label where possible.
- Ask your doctor for a letter that names the medicine, the dose and injection frequency, and mentions needles and syringes if you carry them.
- Pack medication, needles and syringes in your hand luggage together with the paperwork, and bring only what you need for the trip.
- Declare it if you are asked.

Staying longer, or running out while you are here
If you are in Bali for months rather than weeks, carrying a full supply is often impractical. Taking medication home again
Your home country’s import rules apply on the way back. For Australians, testosterone and other anabolic or androgenic substances are controlled at the border, as the Office of Drug Control explains. Travellers can generally carry up to three months’ supply of a prescribed medicine for their own use under the traveller’s exemption, with the prescription or doctor’s letter and the medicine in its original packaging, and should declare it on arrival.
